The bulk of the collection contains correspondence, 1921-1934, of William Thomas Reed of "Ben Dover," Goochland County and Richmond, Va., with individuals and companies concerning the tobacco industry, agricultural operations, the Democratic Party, Union Theological Seminary (Richmond), Medical College of Virginia (Richmond), Larus & Brother Co. (Richmond), Fishers Island (N.Y.), and duck hunting. There is also correspondence, 1927-1933, of Pleasant Larus Reed of Richmond and "Chelsea," King William County, Va., concerning Larus & Brother Co., York River Shipbuilding Corporation of West Point, Va., and the Knights of the Golden Trail (a hunting club in King William County, Va.). Also includes correspondence, 1935, of William Thomas Reed (1903- 1968) concerning the death of William Thomas Reed (1864-1935). Included is correspondence (primarily carbon copies enclosed in letters to William Thomas Reed, Sr.), 1926-1934, of Harry Flood Byrd (while serving as Governor of Virginia and in the U.S. Senate). Also includes letters, 1926-1935, written by or addressed to various people. Business records include accounts, inventories, leases, minutes of meetings, and a plat, 1921-1933, concerning the York River Shipbuilding Corporation of which Pleasant Larus Reed was president; reports and accounts, 1929-1933, of Deucalion Gregory concerning agricultural operations at "Chelsea," and notes concerning "Chelsea." Political papers include reports, statements by Harry Flood Byrd, membership lists, petitions, and miscellany, 1926-1928, concerning the Virginia Citizens' Committee on Consolidation and Simplification of State and Local Governments, of which William Thomas Reed was chairman. There are also materials, 1931-1932, concerning the candidacy of Harry Flood Byrd for the Democratic party nomination for president of the U.S. and the 1932 presidential election.

Theodore Roosevelt Dalton was born 3 July 1901 in Carroll County, Virginia, the son of Currell and Lodoska Maritn Dalton. he received his B.A. from the College of William and Mary as well as his law degree.
